By creating work that calls on the body and awareness of one’s somatic experience, I create the stage for letting go of the thinking, naming brain for a moment in order to allow one’s emotive, visceral response play a more dominant role in one’s experience. Clay, a tactical material that calls on the body’s engagement, influences my work centered on sense perception and the body’s intuitive response. Even when I utilize non-ceramic materials in the work, the tactile, sensual aspects of the ceramic material guide my studio research.
